Today’s smartphones can be used as mobile Wi-Fi hotspots to run wireless internet connections that can be used by other devices. Apart from mobile devices, did you know that desktop computers (PCs) and laptops can also be used as Wi-Fi hotspots? This feature has been supported by computers with the Windows 10 operating system. Users also don’t need additional applications to use the mobile hotspot feature.
Before using it, you need to first make sure that your PC / laptop is connected to an internet connection, either via a LAN cable, connected to another Wi-Fi hotspot, or via a cellular connection. If so, then you can share the internet connection with other devices wirelessly too.
First of all, open the computer settings menu by typing the keyword “Settings” in the Start menu. Then, press the “Enter” button on the keyboard. On the main computer settings page, select the “Network & Internet” icon and select the “Mobile hotspot” menu in the menu bar on the left of the display, just above the “Proxy” menu. A few moments later, the “Mobile hotspot” feature page along with a list of settings will open.
On that page, click the “Edit” button and fill in the required information, such as the name of the hotspot (access point) that will be shared, along with the password so that other people cannot access the Wi-Fi hotspot carelessly. Ignore the “Network level” option and click the “Save” button. You can then immediately activate the mobile hotspot feature by moving the toggle in the top view, from “Off” to “On”.
