We hit September, the time of year when GoPro usually reveals its next action camera. And the leaks and rumors have already started to fly over the GoPro Hero 9 Black.
In July, a leaked image of the front panel of a GoPro camera was revealed on Reddit, showing a large square cutout that could indicate that the 9th-gen GoPro may come with a front screen similar to that of the DJI Osmo Action. That has now apparently been confirmed by what appear to be official leaked product shots of the upcoming GoPro Hero 9.
The German publication Winfuture, with a rather impressive track record of reliable leaks, has shown what they claim to be “official” product images of the upcoming action camera, with several of them displaying color screens on the front and rear.
There’s no indication if that upgraded front screen will be used for video previews or to display shooting parameters (like the current monochrome front screen on the GoPro Hero 8 Black), but this change is one way GoPro attracts more customers. .
Aside from the larger front color display, the rest of the GoPro Hero 9 appears to be identical to the Hero 8 Black. So what else could GoPro do to attract and retain its customers?
Win future claims there is 5K video support coming to the Hero 9 “in the future” according to some “docs” the publication has gotten its hands on. There is no other concrete evidence to back this up, so we suggest taking this news with a pinch of salt. Other technical details about the camera have not been revealed yet.
We also have no idea how much the camera will cost or when it will start shipping, but if GoPro sticks to its usual schedule of a September reveal, we’ll find out soon enough.
